The text on your website is extremely important: it conveys your message and helps visitors understand who you are and what you do. Every title, every paragraph, needs to be carefully crafted. Your text needs to be clear, concise and correct, but also engaging and easy to read. It needs to be true to the tone and personality of your company, and tailored to your target audience (what works for a corporate business won’t work for an outdoor gear brand).
Text is also what helps your website be found. Search engines don’t care whether your site looks pretty. They are only interested in your content. They scan every word in your website to see whether it’s relevant to what their users are searching for.
When writing for the web, therefore, you need to write for both your potential costumers and the search engines, but without the first ones noticing. My rule of thumb? Write for humans first, and robots second.
